Perched along the coast of Edmonds, Washington, this custom landscape was designed around one defining feature: the sweeping views of Puget Sound.
Every major element of the backyard was positioned to take advantage of the waterfront setting. A Symmetry Sauna with an expansive glass window looks directly toward the Sound, while the outdoor living areas, deck, and custom natural boulder fire pit create places to relax and take in the view. Captured at sunset, the landscape comes alive as the fire, water, and surrounding coastline become part of the experience.
A naturalistic stream winds through the property, flowing beneath large stone slab bridges and connecting the different areas of the landscape. Layered plantings and carefully placed stonework help the new landscape feel at home within its Pacific Northwest surroundings, while preserving sightlines toward the water.
This Edmonds project is an example of landscape architecture that doesn’t compete with an extraordinary setting. Instead, every element was designed to frame it, connect with it, and create more ways to enjoy it.
